2014 Inver Grove Heights Days Parade

2014-IGHDaysParadeOn the weekend of September 5th-7th, I got to participate in one of my favorite events ever- Inver Grove Heights Days. I always get very excited for this event, but this year was extra special to me because I got to spend most of it finishing up my reign as the 2014 Miss Inver Grove Heights. On Friday night, my royal family and I, as well as our 2015 candidates, had lots of fun with all the kids and families that came to the annual family fun night! The next morning we were all up bright and early to meet and greet our friends and ambassadors from other communities that came to enjoy the IGH Days parade with us. It was wonderful to see all of their smiling faces and share our memories from the year. The parade itself was an amazing experience! We could not have asked for better weather and there were so many people cheering us on an congratulating us. It felt wonderful to hear these kind words coming from people in our own community. Later that evening, we had our coronation for the 2015 IGH royal family. How exciting! This year’s production was Route 66 themed, and I had a blast dancing during the opening numbers and of course crowing our new ambassadors! I am so blessed to have been able to be a part of this program. It has changed my life in so many ways, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity I was given. I had the time of my life! Inver Grove Heights is such a beautiful place to live, and I am so proud and honored to have been, and continue to be, a representative for it. Congratulations to our newly crowned ambassador family and I am looking forward to our IGH Days festival next year and many years to come!

2014 IGH Days Family Fun Night

2014-IGHDaysFamilyFunNight-1As our reign as the 2014 Inver Grove Heights Royal Family comes to an end, one of our last events was the Inver Grove Heights Days Family Fun Night held at Oakwood Park. On Friday, September 5th my royal sisters and I attended this event along with the 2015 royal family candidates. We all got to work different stations like helping with the numerous games, and working the inflatables they had there. I was able to work the moon bounce.  It reminded me about my first day as IGH Princess when we got to go down the inflatable giant slide. There were so many kids and families at family fun night! It was an awesome turnout!! I even got to talk with some kids about what their favorite game or inflatable was! I think the most popular thing was the inflatable giant slide. The line was always long for it, and nobody wanted to leave! It was great to see our community of Inver Grove Heights come together for fun events like these. I think Family Fun Night is always a great way to kick off Inver Grove Heights Days! So much fun!!

2015 candidate sign decorating

On Thursday, August 7, my royal sisters and I got together with our 2015 candidates for sign decorating. As I was one year ago, the candidates were instructed to create a sign with their name and sponsor to be used in the Inver Grove Heights Days parade. They freely decorated it any way they wanted with cool letters and designs all around their name and sponsor while socializing amongst themselves. The royalty helped out with decorating signs and making sure the candidates had all of the info on it that they needed, and for morale support =). It was nice to have this time to spend with the candidates and get to know them a little better. I had a good time!

Woodbury Kickoff Dinner

On August 4th, 2014 me and my royal sisters had the privilege of attending the Woodbury Kickoff Dinner. The royalty wore pretty purple and white dresses. The dinner was delicious and so were the desserts! The desserts were on auction for only a $1.00 each! Other royalty also attended.  It was fun and we all had a good time!

As our year as the 2014 Inver Grove Heights Royalty comes to a close, we are starting to fundraise for next year’s royal family. One of our events we put on is our annual kick off dinner which was held on Wednesday, August 6. This event is a chance for our sponsors to come and see what our program is all about, and we thank them greatly for all they have done to make this a wonderful scholarship program. During our event we had a fabulous dinner provided by Kane’s Catering, a dessert auction with each dessert made by the current royalty along with the Miss candidates, an all about me presentation to get to the know the candidates, and a silent auction. My royal sisters and I also had the pleasure of joining the realm of King Boreas of the St Paul Winter Carnival. We mingled with visiting royalty and took lots of pictures! Our theme this year was Route 66. There were many fun desserts decorated to go along with this theme, and they were all so creative! Thank you to everyone who made it out to our kick off dinner — we hope you had as much fun as we did!!

Night to Unite

On Tuesday, August 5th, my royal family and I participated in Night to Unite. This is an event where different neighborhoods have a party or celebration and come together for an evening of fun. We traveled to five gatherings and visited with residents of those areas. It was really fun to meet new people and watch the community of Inver Grove Heights unite. I particularly enjoyed visiting with fire fighters of different departments, George Tourville (our mayor), as well as Representative Atkins and the new superintendent of our school district. Everywhere we went I felt so welcomed and grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community.

Aloha! The Special Olympic Summer Party Luau was Sunday, August 13th at the South St. Paul VFW. My royal sisters and I had a blast with the athletes and their families. The Royal Candidates for 2015 were also there. There was face painting, nail polishing, delicious food, and great company. Best of all, lots of dancing! It was so much fun to see everyone out on the dance floor having a good time. I am so happy that I was able to be a part of this event.

Feed My Starving Children

image 4 2 3

As a candidate for Miss Inver Grove Heights a year ago, I had experienced something I had never done before. With the 2013 royalty together with the other candidates, I participated in Feed My Starving Children. Therefore, for my third and final service project as Inver Grove Heights Princess, I decided to do Feed My Starving Children because it was so much fun! With the help of about 20 people including friends, family, and even some of my royal sisters, we packed meals for about an hour to help those in need in third world countries. We all worked together as a team to get as many meals packed as we could. In the end, everyone who attended (not just my group, other volunteers were there too!) packed 49 boxes. That’s 10,584 meals!!!! To put that into perspective, that much food will feed 29 kids for a year and the cost of those meals is $2,328. I would say we did a pretty good job and I am so glad that our volunteering will definitely make an impact on starving children somewhere around the world. I love FMSC and I would love to do it again in the future!!

2015 Royal Candidates at Town Square Television

On July 29th the Inver Grove Heights Royalty Scholarship Program held exit interviews for the current royalty and introductory interviews for the 2015 royal candidates at Town Square Television. The emcee was Matt Wallace, the Prime Minister of the Winter Carnival 2013. Matt did a great job and it was really fun seeing him again!

During my exit interview it was fun talking with Matt about all the great events and service projects my Royal family and I have been involved with this year. We also had an opportunity to talk about upcoming events like the pancake breakfast on August 17th and, of course, the 2015 Miss IGH Coronation on September 6th.

The 2015 Miss candidates were asked questions about school, future goals, and why they want to be Miss Inver Grove Heights. The 2015 Junior and Little Miss candidates did a great job introducing themselves. It was a very exciting night for all of the candidates. They all did a great job and it was really great to get to know them a little better.

Lakeville Pan-O-Prog parade

On Saturday, July 12th, my royal sisters and I attended the . Before the parade, all the visiting royalty met in a room at the community center and shared stories and had some lunch. While we were at this pre-parade event, we met the newly crowned royalty and took lots of pictures. After that, it was off to find our parade float! Once we found it we socialized a bit with other royalty and parade entrants.  It was quite a hoot to see all the interesting floats.  Once the parade was underway, we waved to the bystanders and did our chair dances for everyone to see! Considering the day started out one a really “wet” note, it cleared up in time for a nice sunny event!!  I think I speak for all of us when I say we had a good time!
